I just bought two laptops recently. One was an Acer model and was very nice with a 15in widescreen. The other was a Jetta with a regular 15in. One thing I found is widescreens are becoming almost a standard. I saw a 17in widescreen in my travels. The 15in widescreen from Acer is very light and thin - but it is long. They used the space for a comfortable keyboard layout and design. I think a 17 would be cumbersome but a 19 would be like hauling around skateboard or something. I'm can't see these becoming super popular. If one wants a huge screen you can get a CRT or LCD and plug it into that. Of course, if you want a huge screen wherever you go a 19in may be the best solution. BTW, the Acer had an AMD Sempron and was very fast for a 600 dollar unit. Screen was perfect, no bloatware pre install crap, really nice package. What was weird is that it came with FAT32 and the hard drive was split in half (30+30). The battery life is terrible, maybe an hour and a half - in my use. The Jetta will be delivered next week. It was 100 bucks more but had a 5400 vs a 4200 and 512 vs 256. Jetta had a celeron that was a little slower then the AMD but for everything else it just made better sense.

I know I still love using my ultra lite Dell L400 laptop even after 5yrs. The weight makes it feel like a notebook that I might have carried in school as opposed to the feel of carrying an anchor like carrying one of the newer wide screen 15" one does but that's just me & ymmv. If one wants a desktop replacement that's great too just don't ask me to lug it around for you. ;-)

Agreed. My 15" Inspiron 8200 is heavy. Most of the time it's either
on my lap or sitting on the coffee table. It doesn't get carried around
much. Did take it on a vacation trip a few times, but it feels like a
boat anchor after carrying it a while.
