Seasonal, perhaps? With winter approaching, many A/C's are getting shut off...so temps could be increasing.
Heat and vibration are the two worst enemies of HDs...

With that many drives and not restricted to one brand, I would suspect some kind of power issue.

Anyone else getting a lot of bad HDs recently? Over the last two weeks, I've replaced 8 hard drives, in various computers (both desktop and laptop) and of various manufacturers (Fujitsu, Seagate, Maxtor, and Quantum.) I'm starting to wonder about a virus damaging drives. I don't think it's lightning - we haven't had any for over a month.
