I have a single RE2 in this box, and I can attest to the fact that it just -feels- like an incredibly quick drive. When I build out my array later on (looking at an 8 port PCIe Tekram Areca ARC-1220 card), it will be a tough decision between the RE2 and the 7k400/7k500.
Nice job, WD.

I just had a WD74G Raptor die on me :( Actually, to be honest, I wasn't as
super impressed with them as I thought I would be.

I switched over and finally switched over to 4*400 WD RE2 drives. Good
performance, right price. While these drives are listed as "RAID Edition"
(thus RE2) the price is affordable, they are quiet and very fast. The
moment I played with one of them I knew it was basically the best drive I
had worked with in a while.

And nothing was really "wrong" with my WD74G dying; the thing took a hell of
a beating in the way of dealing with the constant work I was putting it
under.. Besides which, WD is advance replacing it so *shrug*

Honestly, though, the RE2 400G drive -feels- faster. Yes, I know it
probably isn't faster, but it does -feel- faster.

And you who say the SATA connectors fall off? I have not had that

I have not had that problem. My SATA compliant power supplies are Antec in
an Antec case [can you imagine that] and my motherboards are GigaByte.

Gee, I'm disappointed, you haven't taken the opportunity to tell us which
HDs that you use since they are on the other end of the cable.

I only use Western Digital 10,000 RPM Raptors with 5yr warranties in my
machines & not only have I not had a bad drive yet but they are so easy to
setup.
