My problem is while the video plays well, the audio drops out - at
least on the last movie I took straight from a DVD. I also used
DVDShrink on one first but the movie ended up having video and
audio out of sync from the get go.
Is there a more reliable tool for doing this? Oh, I've also tried
h.264 and just mpeg4. Same deal on both - and i defragged first, too.
What about just using CloneDVD Mobil with AnyDVD running in the back
ground.

Hey, this one seems to work well. It ripped and transcoded a 2 hour DVD
movie to iPod format in 48 minutes. The file size was about half of
what CopyDVD4 made, but the quality, when zoomed up to 2X on a PC, was
less. However, quality is adjustable and I'll be viewing on a 2-inch
screen. :) I may be dropping coin soon. Thanks for the hint, David.
