How about a color laser. I don't need color but it sounds nice. the cartridges are good for 1500 pages which is at least three years for me, and powder doesn't have a shelf life. So consumables aren't an issue. But get a color laser for $222.50 out of pocket, .... very tempting.
Actually, toner cartridges do have a shelf life. The gears wear out unless they are disconnected when printing black.
