I have been thinking about it. It will slowdown your connection.
From what I can gather from the docs on the site, the hardware device
you buy from them creates a permanent SSL connection to their servers, almost like a vpn (not sure exactly). But then all your traffic is sent encrypted to iPhantom where it is anonymized and then sent out into the Internet. All traffic coming back is filtered for spam/virii/etc and then sent back to you encrypted. Logically, somewhere in this process is some bandwidth and processing overhead which you are bound to notice.
I wouldn't put a whole lot of faith in their spyware/filtering service but I am thinking about getting it just for the anonymizing service. With ISPs cracking down for stuff that isn't even illegal nowadays and who knows what sniffing and logging your packets, it probably makes a good deal of sense. I think it would be worth a bit of a slowdown - what good is having a really fast connection if you can't use it for anything? On 7/21/06, Winterlight <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:
Read their forums and you will see that somebody wrote in and said he had it on his home LAN and it really slowed things down.... then he put it only on his primary box and that worked out. It may be just his setup, but I would spend some time reading their forum. At 08:08 AM 7/21/2006, you wrote: >This really looks to be a perfect solution for our home network.
