Sis calls and says oldest son needs a "jump drive" for college course work. What is a "jump drive?"
In any case, the talk then moves on to whether to buy a new pooter or upgrade the current machine. It is an AMD 1000M TBird on an Abit KG7-lite mb. Not certain about the ram but think it is 512MB. I'll check the book and see how far the ram can go. Money is tight, so we will try to cut all corners possible. I know the old 20GB eide hd (and Win98se) has to go. I am suggesting 100GB+. Don't need raptors here. I've also suggested WinXP pro and XPOfficePro. I'm thinking the nephew can get the sw at some discount with his student credentials from either online or the college bookstore. Your suggestions are requested. Is this a reasonable plan?
