Antec is overrated, but so is PCP&C. Make no mistake--PCP&C is definitely a
top tier PSU manufacturer, but they just (IMO) aren't worth the price
premium.
Yes, they are very expensive, which is why in every PS run off I have ever
read they always win the number one performance-quality slot, but loose out
to number two for value. This is why I bought the Antec True Power supply
to begin with, they were the PCMAG editors choice, because the PCP&AC was
too expensive.
However, PCP&C only maybe 80 to 100 bucks more then another top end PS. I
only have two primary workstations, and I really like the fact that I
never.... ever ... think to myself, maybe the PS is failing. That, for me,
is well worth the extra money.
When I bought my first PCP&C I asked a good friend of mine who is a
electrical engineer at Micron if he thought I was wasting my money paying
the premium for PCP&C. He told me, not at all, that is what they use at
Micron, in their test machines, and that it would be the last power supply
I would need to buy. I have been running that one in a Xeon setup for about
thirty months and no complaints or problems.
There's -real- server-grade stuff available too, but at an even
greater price and noise premium.
I've become very fond of the quiet, high efficiency Seasonic S12 models.
