No offense dude, but get real it'll be 2 years or more before Vista makes a serious dent in XP (Jan., 2007 debut figure 2009 before most games are released for it ). By that time you and I will have to upgrade @ least once just to keep up with software bloat so your soon to come PC is already obsolete as far as when Vista comes into its own. And as much as it galls me, I'll have to buy @ least one copy to play games on. I hope Gates & Co. keeps on jacking the price up and making activation more stringent because the more Microsoft squeezes the more its user base will slip away and then Linux will dominate! Its going to take a lot of Linux users to get game companies to support it in a big way and unfortunately thats still years away.

When I get this upgrade put together in a month or two, should I get Vista or stick with XP Pro? I plan on getting a Core 2 Duo based system. Used mostly for audio processing and gaming. XP Pro has worked fine for me so far, I don't want a bloated OS with a bunch of unnecessary garbage, activation woes, high price etc... I guess what I'm asking is, is Vista going to demonstrate a big improvement in performance over XP Pro?
