You and Chris are misinterpreting what I wrote. I never once stated I was
comparing the 965 to the 975. I'm comparing the 965 (and ICH8/R) to the
competing 680i, RD600, AND to an enthusiast-grade chipset that Intel SHOULD
have that is native for C2D/C2Q. They simply don't have one; that's the
problem.

And overclocking is very much dependent upon the chipset...not sure where
you got that idea.

PATA on 965 boards is handled by a separate controller, as ICH8/R make no
provision for them. To me, that's a big strike.

The same problem exists with Ethernet. The ICH8/R lacks any onboard Ethernet
controller, so it has to be provided by an add-on chip. That's why most 965
boards only have one Ethernet port. Another strike.
