Sitting on a ball where you have to constantly microbalance HAS been
proven to be a Good Thing for both your back and your abs.

At home I tend to compute reclined a bit in my computer chair with my
feet about 18" off the floor. Not sure how good it is for the back but
it sure is comfortable.

Back problems tend to develop because we allow our abdominal
muscles to get weak. Sitting behind a desk all day doesn't
help the situation.
