I wont even touch the subject of Daemon Tools bundling adware in their
installation package (*barf* *yeech* *spit*)
The once highly praised ROM drive emulators have dipped their wick into
something nasty in the form of DuplexSecure's SCSI pass through direct
driver, SPTD.sys. This driver is loaded before any other storage
drivers/services and locks down XP's access to storage so badly it blocks
the ability to run a scheduled "CHKDSK /F" upon rebooting. Furthermore,
after any rational human being desires to rid themselves of such a dangerous
tool, Daemon's uninstall routine does NOT remove SPTD.sys nor any of it's
registry entries (which have been modified so even an administrator by
default can not delete the keys!). SPTD is so deeply integrated into XP that
the OS will *PROMPT* you after selecting to boot into safe mode if you wish
to load SPTD.sys, and electing not to will result in an instant reboot!
Though sptd.sys is not what I would technically call spyware/adware, these
kinds of install tactics certainly reek of it.
More SPTD horror stories:

And here is DuplexSecure's own staff in their own forum basically admitting
to dubious install methods:

Sticking with elby's VirtualCloneDrive and CloneDVD2.
