As an update, the VIA 4n1's did not do the trick. I tried both the v443 and
Hyperion v451.
I found my old VIA archive (back to v436) and the only video driver
contained is for an AGP/GART driver. Assume an AGP video card or AGP imbed
in the NorthBridge. This stupid VIA imbed is a Trident PCI function. And
so far, I can not yet tell which Trident PCI it is trying to be.
The chip callout is "VIATech VT8501 Graphics Ctrlr 5.12.01.3102."
Reading on ViaArena I stumbled across a lawsuit between Via and Trident
just about when this POS (and its POS m/b) got constructed. Via offers no
driver for this imbed. Neither did Trident. Naturally, the only
Via/Trident(Camaro) driver from Compaq/HP is for W98/ME........ LOL!
Sometimes, I just sit back and laugh at how we've gotten where we are..... :)
Was finally able to google this name and after watching 2 dozen ads, I
managed to get a VT8501 driver for W2K at v5.12.01.3108. Not yet convinced
that this driver is proper, because the fresh W2K install has already
tossed it twice and reverted to VGA. Still having fun, however. LOL!
But, this Compaq Presario 7360 is a true POS.
Thanks Collective,
Duncan

Rick,
Thankyou for the link. I did miss the "MVP#" reference at the bottom of
the page. Late in the afternoon. Got the set! Yes, see the newer one,
but not willing to risk on that one just yet. Not my machine. And, the
HD may still get moved to another machine still. This Compaq POS is
destined for a swap or land-fill some where from what I've been told..... :)
Winterlight,
Thanks again for the note.
Gonna be a long night.......... :)
Best,
Duncan

Anyone have an old ViaTech 4n1 for an Apollo MVP4 m/b chipset pair?

See the page it comes from here: (Very near bottom...)
