Well I'm not even talking about multiplayer & license.
The issue is
gifting/lending finished stand-alone titles which is
totally verboten by Steam
unless you buy something that duplicates existing
licenses like OB did for HL2.
While I agree that at least 1-on-1 should be included
for the $50 (CC or Red
Alert did this), I'm not even asking to use 1 license
to allow 2+ people to play
at the same time. Steam licenses the player, not the
computer, which sounds nice
you can play what you have a license for on any PC.
Nice until you want to give
away a finished Ep1 or let your kid play TF2 when
you're not. The kicker with
HL2 DM not being in OB is anyone with a ATI or Nvidia
video card is entitled to
a free copy of DM! So why not just include it in every
OB since that's 100% of
the gaming ready PC market and no one but a masachist
would play it on another
chipset?!?!
Steam pricing pisses me off mostly because supposedly
Steam prevents pirated
copies, or at least prevents them from playing VAC
servers (which is most). It's
also eliminates manufacturing & lowers distro costs
because there's no stock and
you can download what you buy. So the prices should
drop but they don't!
Good news is HL2 is a great engine if you can ignore
the above issues and don't
let Havok's lame physics bother you much, and consider
Valve seems committed to
improving the experience. This is unlike buying into
Tribes Vengeance only to
find out not enough copies sold therefore they weren't
going to work on &
release any patches. Without the patches the game was
nearly worthless in
multiplayer.

I guess I should
