Greg/JoeUser/Bobby/FORC5,
I had to stop research. My eyes were crossing........... :)
I may not be able to use the S12 series SeaSonic. But, I now have feeling
of why
this brand is highly placed.
SeaSonic seems to build the S12 PSU's to the latest Intel (atx?) spec that
removes the
-5vdc because all the newest m/b's no longer have ISA slots. I understand
this,
but the machine I need to fix has an Asus CUBX m/b; with a pair of ISA slots.
Worse, I use one of the ISA slots for an old ISA SB64-AWE-value. It is a
P3-800.
And, when I look at the pix of the S12, the wiring harness does not seem to
have
the normal 4-pin power connectors for FDD, PATA HD's, etc. There seems to be
a new 4-pin Molex I've never seen before. Don't mind the host of special
Intel-
related power connectors, or, what look like SATA HD power connectors.
Just a bit shell-shocked at how quickly this ATX stuff is changing so fast.
Yes, once I convert everything (except the server) to P5E m/b's and new Intel
CPUs most of the shock will be gone...... LOL!
More research in the am after I grapple a bit more. Perhaps PCP&C still has a
PSU that fits what I seem to need.
Thank you all for your help. Actually, that bright RED PSU is unique; just
hope it does
NOT glow in the dark! LOL!
Best,
Duncan

I typically use the S12 series--and any of them are fine. Unlike other
manufacturers, SeaSonic does not directly produce a "value" line that is of
lesser quality that you need to look out for.
The M12 series is modular, but I won't touch them personally. I don't want
any more connections between the PSU and the device than absolutely
necessary, because they can (and do) fail. Just my dislike of modular
designs in general, nothing specific to SeaSonic.
There are a number of rebranded supplies too, if you're interested. PCP&C's
Silencer line and Corsair's HX lines (620w and less only) are built by
SeaSonic and are of high quality. Supposedly some Antecs are as well
(TruePower Trio, Neo...maybe some others), but I just can't bring myself to
buy another Antec after having so many of the CWT-built ones fail.
