Some months ago I asked the List about a xdsl problem I was having. It had
to do with my service going bonkers/out each time I get a rainstorm float
through. Solidly, the rcvd comments indicated my service provider
(ATT/Bellsouth) was a primary culprit. OK. I do know that my internal
phone wiring is also on the list; and, over time I will spend the money to
fix this.
Well, guess what? This trouble rests mostly with me! I have not had a
"toad-choker" yet, so I am not ready to let ATT off the hook
yet.................. :)
Way back when I did some major moving of the modem and router away from my
microwave (and the pix of the AL foil business), I moved the router and
modem all the way to the west side of my house. This put them as close to
my TID as possible. I spent half a day moving stuff around in that room. I
even brought a spare APC BP1100 ups online just for the modem and router.
When it dust settled, I figured I was set. Not.
Turns out that I forgot to route the phone box at the wall through the UPS
before connecting to the xdsl modem! DOH!!!! And, several posts on dsl
reports indicate that the latest series of Westell 6100 modems have been
tweaked for high sensitivity; which makes them overly sensitive to home
external electrical activity (inductive currents, spikes, etc.).
Two weeks ago I found my mis-wire. Fixed it. Modem is now behind the UPS'
noise filter. I am sitting in the outer rain bands of Fay ATM and am fully
linked and happy. If I get any more stupid and forgetful with age, it is
time for a new hobby. And, I hate basket-weaving................ :)
LOL! Thank you List.
