For Greg, and others actually running VISTA 64;

I am going to install 64 bit VISTA on a system with 8GB of RAM. I am going to go with a new Video card =

SAPPHIRE 100243-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail

I am figuring the 1GB isn't a problem because 64 bit addressing will not reduce available system RAM the way it would in a 32 bit system?? But is there anything else I should think about for a video card with 1GB of RAM?

You're right about the memory addressing. Not sure if there are any cadveats about the memory on the video card other than it's probably overkill, but that's not an issue here =)

Also anybody care to speculate if Talkworks PRO will run on 64 bit Vista? Will an older external serial modem work OK on Vista 64?

I've not run into any problems running software on 64 bit vista EXCEPT for Binary News Reaper 2. Admittedly I don't use Talkworks, so I'd definately ask google that question. Binary News Reaper 3 works fine with 64 bit though.

Do most other modern 32 bit apps run on Vista64 or is this a constant problem of getting software and hardware working?

Hasn't been a real problem for me. 32 bit programs haven't really given me a problem. They install into the 32 bit Program Files Folder and run fine from what I can tell.

The Biggest issue I've encountered is finding 64 bit drivers for older hardware. (For instance I had an Athlon 64 in an old linux machine that I upgraded the hardware on. I tried installing 64 bit Windows XP and there were no 64 bit drivers for the nvidia ethernet. (NForce 3 vintage). I bought a realtek chipset ethernet card and works fine.
