Winterlight,
Very good thought. The display runs thru my switchview KVA. I thought of
getting my spare panel just to eliminate the kvm switch.
As luck would have it! I left my old PCI(32) FX5500 in the build. Then I
looked at DIMM slots the RAM was plugged into...................LSS....I
moved the RAM from the "orange" slots (dimmA2 and dimm b2) to the "black"
slots (dimmA1 and dimm B1)............
The rotten pile of parts finally powered up, beeped, lit up the display and
I now have the basic bios (0401) set to start a fresh XP install! The new
toy is burning trons as I write this reply!
Jazzed I AM! I am now going to have to go back an dig more into the UM
about how/why the DIMM slots are so different. These new toys are very
finicky about WHAT goes WHERE it seems.
After I get the hd partitioned, formatted, and, XP loaded and fully
patched, I will again try the ATI 4670 video card.
[for later!]
But, I still have some other video card questions about this.........I have
2 DVI-VGA adapters. The gray one (now in use w/FX5500) has a complete
array of pins to match the DVI output of the video card. The new white
DVI-VGA adapter is missing many of the pins. And, the ATI docs refer to
this adapter as a DVI-HDMI adapter..........Funny that the back end still
looks like a standard blue VGA output. Very curious ATM. But, not yet
critical, or another issue.................
Thank you,
Duncan

Have you selected the right input on the Dell display? Perhaps you
inadvertently switched from DVI to VGA or something.

Seeking opinions and suggestions.
I have a brand new PC built that will NOT light UP the display and
provides NO POST codes either. I am stumped.............
I am building a new PC to replace my old gaming platform. The old gaming
platform uses an Adaptec 29160-64 and a pair of 18.4GB Cheetahs. I have
run out of space on the c:/ partition, so it is time to backup and build
a new, modern replacement PC.
The new PC is:
Asus P5Q3 m/b
2x 1GB Crucial "Ballistix" DDR3 RAM
Intel E8400 C2D using the stock hs/fan
ATI R4670 video card
Seagate ST316015AS 160GB SATA HD
AOpen D-1240 PATA DVDROM
PCP&C 610 EPS12V PSU
Since it will NOT even light up the Dell panel (no video out), I'm stuck
in the ozone.
I do have a new spare m/b, a new spare E8400, and a new spare PCP&C 610
EPS12V psu.
I have tried my spare Matrox G200 PCI and my spare FX550 PCI video
cards. Neither will light up the display....... Most odd!
Just wondering where to start? My little black book is missing some magic!
Thank you,
Duncan
