I'm telling two stories below, hope that is clear.
One reason I asked about the DSL was, when they installed my
FIOS they had a hardware problem in my house. (An intermittant
optical link problem.)
I have the new type of one piece *all in the basement* FIOS
with the COAX CABLE type output to the Router.
(They switched to that type, to be able to support TV.)
They sent the local man in the truck.
The guy said the gaskets (too many in his opinion) were
keeping the Optical cable from properly seating.
He said he was leaving one. (I wanted to know the history
of what he did so I could *warn* the next guy the unit was
no longer "stock/RTM")
All I know is what he did fixed it great.
He also helped me move the Router to the first floor, as the heat
ducts in my basement were creating a Faraday shield. <grin>
During a CELL phone conversation, (before the FIOS truck
came) they said they could do a hardware reset of the FIOS
stuff that would be *just as good* as me pulling the battery
out of it. (From the built-in UPS.)
They wanted me to do that, but then talked me out of it
later as being un-necessary. It had more serious problems.
I was wondering if the older DSL stuff has the remote reset
stuff EVEN if remote access/configuration was turned off at
the time. (I'm sure it was OFF, with two settings.)
I guess we can assume there is a back door.
That makes sense, as long at it is secure.
Thanks for the suggestion below, but I am too limited to do that.

I'd be looking to do a firmware dump & look into that.
Verizon is famous for changing most everything they market from stock to customized
firmware most notoriously their cell phones so I'd not be surprised if the firmware
is custom w/ a back door.
