There are newer models out there.  When I bought them, the ratings were
almost all good.  Most of the Lite-Ons I have bought have switchable face
plates (black and beige).

went and looked. Newegg shows this item as "deactivated." Also, it only 
shows a 50% "happy" rating.  OK, was really looking for a white/beige face 
too............. :)
Yes, in the old days I too was a Plextor fan-boy!  But, that was back in my 
scsi-days!
