Thanks for the info.  I am working on an Access program and using XP while
it is running is kind of sluggish.  I was trying to make XP more responsive,
not the app.  I'll try it with and without 2 CPUs and see if I can notice a
difference.

XP should have picked it up with a reboot. However, don't make a common
virtualization mistake and instantly assume that adding a vCPU will make it
faster. Scheduling for multiple vCPUs adds a LOT of overhead to the
virtualization layer, and will result in slower performance overall, unless
your specific application(s) in the VM make extensive use of
multithreading...
