Dude...

Good deal! I specifically when after the 67-inch because I have a big room and sit a good ways from the TV... but this set rocks...i've been using my for HD broadcasts and blu-ray via HDMI....just totally off-the-wall lovely. I was coming at this from a Sony 53 inch XBR and this tv just blows it clean out of the water. I wasn't really planning to buy a TV but like you, mine when out unexpectedly.

I got cheap HDMI cables that do a really good job too for only $4/cable at monoprice.com. I also got a new Onkyo receiver that lets me output all sources over HDMI...

With Blu-ray you get movies at 1080p/24 with lossless audio...both are simply spectacular. The jump from what I had to this for what I paid is totally amazing...I bought my Sony XBR some 9 years ago and dropped what I thought was huge coin...I was too happy to get one of these at way less than what I paid them. Honestly, I can't get enough of watching this TV with Blu-ray.

I wish I had gotten one of the newer BD players that have wireless built in. Some even let you download movies from netflix and music from pandora over a wireless connection...

Ok, so since my Sony WEGA 36XBR400 died a few weeks ago [36" Direct-view
flat-screen CRT] I've been in the market for a new TV (it had the BEST
picture but just wasn't big enough, so it was kind of a blessing in
disguise)

I'd discounted plasma, but then reading enough stuff online and on avsforum
specifically was interested in the Pioneer Kuro Plasma line (and Elites
specifically); but then they stopped making them and might even be going out
of business so I reluctantly am not looking at them (the new Panasonic Elite
equivalent line might be worth looking at the in future).

Front projectors are cool but wasn't sure it would work with my light issues
due to huge windows.

So then I read some more reviews and most people were discounting LCDs due
to lack of adequate performance on fast motion and overbrightness

So that left the DLPs. And then Samsung came out with the LED DLPs that got
rave reviews last year and the bulbs weren't supposed to need
replacing...reviews are pretty good as per the links already sent and prices
are even coming down. I looked at the 61" and 67" at Best Buy and they were
like $1900 and $2500 respectively...

I got lucky and got a floor model of the 61" for $950 and only $200 for the
4yr plan (which is what got me the price that low) and a Samsung floor model
stand for the tv $90...so great deal all-around, though prices for it on
Amazon have come down A LOT (it's $1450 now, though I saw it at $1200 a few
weeks ago), and their white-glove delivery is supposed to rock. I got the
61" b/c it was going to cost me like $1900 for floor model 67" and I was
like 2x for 6" more?! Nah!

And I have to say the picture is pretty amazing, and it's HUUGE when you get
it home; much bigger than it seems in the store! Been watching only with
component and HD looks pretty amazing (though it depends on your source;
crap in=crap out); still need to get HDMI cables and try those and test with
a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player, which should look even better!

And final note about the TV; it doesn't have a reflective screen; it's
matte, so it is AWESOME; my previous tv had tons of reflection issues with
our big windows that face to the west (tv faces north) and we had to close
the blinds all the time; now we can open them and you can hardly even tell
it's open and it's totally watchable and you can hardly even tell! It's
really possibly the best feature of the tv for me; something I didn't even
realize!

Ok, that's my quick thoughts for now; I definitely can recommend the TV; if
you see a floor model of the 61" at a Best Buy you should be able to talk
them down to the price I got, and for $1k for a 61" screen that looks great
in HD...you can't beat that! GL!

                                                        BINO

I really don't care if they come back or not.....as long as my lovely 67-inch LED DLP keeps working 'til it dies...for the price I paid...others can pay the premium price for competing tech.

Yeah I read that.

DLP's were almost dead, down to 2-3 manufacturers out there this last year and now with the LED backlights might be coming back to compete as well. :)

And now with LED light source DLP beats out plasmas for size and action
picture quality, and I saw a blue ray DVD of the fifth element side by side
with a plasma (vizio 50) and a mitsu 57 dlp and went with the dlp.
