Thank you for the shout. Yes, what you shared is how I have both Eudora
and Thunderbird set up.
Eudora rcvs email , but records error(s) with each
interchange. Thunderbird simply errors immediately on "check" w/o rcvng
any email.
I will again triple-check my program settings.
Is there a possibility that my router might be intercepting/screwing with
this new use of SSL and/or ports 465 and 995? I will also re-scan my
router's activity log........... :)
As jmaccraw suggested, I suspect that there may be yet another device in
the chain that is not yet playing nice. Still checking.
I did fully expect this situation to happen BTW. I have never had good
relations with ATT; and, why my first xdsl use back in SoCal was after
Verizon bought/absorbed General Telephone.
I needed something else to do today anyway. LOL!

I am at 'pacbell.net', yet my settings are thus with the new ATT
stuff.........
'pop.att.yahoo.com' for the pop server..........
'smtp.att.yahoo.com' for the smtp server.........
port '995' for pop, and 'use ssl' has to be checked now............
port '465' for smtp, and 'use ssl' needs to be used there too..
Password authentication is needed for both........
No more basic port 25 stuff is allowed, they don't want outsiders to
be able to simply connect to use their services for spam
forwarding......
This page has settings for all the various ISP's ATT swallowed up,
including Bellsouth..... :)

OK. My Thunderbird settings are wrong.
When I open I get an immediate:
/Alert/
"Mail Server does not support secure authentication."
I suppose this means I AM going thru a proxy?
Only because ATT/Bellsouth 'says' that I NEED to now use secure
authentication. To which, I read using the new ports and "SSL."
Where have I gone south?
Other than the "Secure Authentication" settings of TBird to back off
of, any additional help?
