Unless you have the need to do SLI I'd still recommend the Asus Rampage mobo. There are plenty of DDR2/X48 choices but I'm really partial to this board.

CPU wise I am not up to speed on what's trendy. Q6600 has served me well so far, I'm sure the Q9xxx series is what the Q6xxx was last year. Heat wise I'd not worry enough to spend more on the CPU, put it into a good HSF/fan

If you need a case I'd recommend the Armor+ VA6000BWS case configured with fan trays on the case bottom rather than 2x more HDD mounts. Newegg had a special on them bringing the price down on par with the regular Armor's price.
