The problem is that this install is maybe two months old. Rather than
use any tweaked installs, I went back to the basic full, not modified XP
install and now I'm having problems.
I just hate to have to reinstall all games & apps. Though I would like
to know why this machine is doing this stuff....

When's the last time you did a fresh install? Sounds to me like it may be
time again. Slipstream in SP3 and all the updates and fixes you want and
nuke it.

This worked, eventually. I had to set passwords in two different places
before it would work. I had to go to User Accounts and create password
(even though one already existed), then control userpasswords2 & unchecking
the box got me an autologon. It must have been that XP either forgot the
password(?) or, I mis-remember and although I had to click the user on .net,
it really didn't have a password. Surprisingly enough, when you do control
userpasswords2 and uncheck the box, it asks you for a password, but upon
rebooting, it doesn't work. Only worked after creating password.

may work, forgot about that.

I had a similar issue with trying to get the monitor to come up after it
auto shuts off due to inactivity. I found that by giving it the
ctrl-alt-del salute and then hitting esc it woke up the monitor.
That Tweakui problem is weird - I used it to do the same thing for years
on
my XP systems and never saw that. Is fast user switching disabled? I
always had that off, maybe it makes a difference. I know under
Vista/Win7
you enable autologon a different way, by going through the advanced user
accounts settings and turning off "users must enter a login/password".
That
might be the ultimate setting that TweakUI is accessing, although I'm not
sure.

I've got three minor problems with XP that aren't show stoppers but
annoying.
First, I mentioned this in a previous message to the list. I have a
folder, C:\Documents, which opens at startup. This is not a M$ created
folder, I created it. I have been through some 200 webpages and nothing
has
worked. I also searched completely through the registry for that exact
folder. Startup and Run keys were examined long ago. Don't know where
to
look for this one now.
Second, The MB is a Gigabyte Ultra-durable P45 and if I do not turn on
the
monitor (powered off via power strip) and boot up the system, it will
show a
black screen/monitor going to sleep. Nothing will change that (mouse,
keyboard, yelling, screaming). All I can do it either hit the power or
reset buttons to reboot. I've been through the Power Options in Windows
(all at Never) and nothing in the BIOS seems to apply.
Third, I have Tweak UI installed and if I set it for one account to boot
up, it will do that on the next boot, but thereafter, back to the .net
choose your account screen. I go back to Tweak UI and the box has been
unchecked. How do I get it to stray?
This is plain vanilla XP, fully patched, no tweaks of services or
anything
else.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks....Steve
