Hey guys, so I have an IBM T42 circa 2005 (I know it's old but it still
mostly works). It has 1 GB RAM in the form of 2 512MB SODIMMs and I found
out how much mem max it can support (2GB) and what kind exactly I need, just
like this site says:
http://www.memorystock.com/memory/IBMThinkPadT422373xxx.html

So I was thinking of upgrading my memory to the specific type listed, and I
found something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Technology-CT12864X335-Unbuffered-Non-ECC/dp/B
0002VAQR4/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_0 but it's $46 for 1GB, which is kind of
expensive, so I was going to pass.

But then I found a *super-cheap* deal on some memory, i.e.
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-KVR667D2S5-1G-200-Pin-ValueRAM/dp/B000B5U9UK/
ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8
/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1245431196&sr=1-3>
&s=electronics&qid=1245431196&sr=1-3 which is $17 *shipped* for *TWO* 1GB
SODIMMs (~1/3 the price for double the memory)!

It's a crazy good deal, but the problem is that it's DDR2-667 PC5300/5400
RAM, and the first link shows that my laptop is supposed to take DDR-333
PC2700.

So the million dollar question is since they're the same 200 pins, and the
same physical size, and the same 2.5v voltage (and both are unbuffered and
non-ECC) will the super-cheap PC5400 work in my laptop?

And even if no one knows the answer to that for sure, will it fry the
mainboard if I try and put it in? That's the real thing I want to know,
since for $17 I figured I'd order and try it, but I wouldn't want to fry the
computer just trying it. The only difference I found was that the CAS
Latency (CL) is double on the DDR2 stuff which makes sense.but not sure how
much that matters.
