I'll give you an example of how the equivalent of cloud-based
computing saved my bacon. My primary email client is Windows
Live Mail, which (optionally) syncs your list of contacts with a
web-based Hotmail account. My laptop got stolen, and I didn't
have a recent backup of my contacts. Luckily the web-based
version of my contacts list was up to date, and saved the day.

For the vast majority of people, a cloud based PC makes sense - they are only surfing and emailing anyway, so if their internet connection is down, they are dead in the water anyway. But I'm thinking more for business applications.
