I know what a WINS server is suppose to do.
I also accept that IT is poo-poo'd here on the list!
...but, I now run one on my server.
I do not use a local DNS server.
I do not use "domain" on my LAN.
?I also have dedicated lmhosts files on each machine!
(I am told that the use of lmhosts files is very OLD Tech!)
If I now use a WINS Server, should I:
a) delete/kill all my lmhosts files?
b) leave my LAN as it is?
I am getting ready to start a backup for my NAS, and, there is lots of
noise (to me) about how my LAN has to be setup for this backup business
to work.
