Hmm, that's a bit different than my interpretation. I always thought
you ran a server OS because it is more robust and stable, less likely
to crash or reboot, and able to provide services like printer or file
sharing or web serving to clients.
As far as permissions goes, you actually want accounts to have less
privledges on a server than a normal box so users can't mess things up.

I "Think" a server allows you to enable/control/allow stuff you are
not allowed to do (force) at the "Client" level. JMHO!
My server came to me with W2K-Server. I have never tried anything
else on it. I have rebuilt it twice. Tim has recovered my RAID
'array' once.
I bought this server just to try and LEARN all STUFF server (and,
the price was right!). I have a sinking feeling I may NOT have the
past experience(s) to do this. Well, Damn! Stuff happens.......... :)
But, this old machine campaigns ON!

it does RAID-5 so very, very, well!
OK. Windows Home Server. Sounds good. What is WHS's base? I know
nothing about this 'object' or 'offer.'
However, if it is "Vista-based", not interested...... :)
Just call me hard-core anti-Vista.
Besides, my server is really old. I can not afford "blade-class"
servers!
I have lived/read through all this lists' traffic about all things
Vista. I choose to avoid it a all costs. Yes, I understand that
many/most of this list now uses Vista (and is most likely feverishly
updating to W7!).
I am old.
I am slow.
I still marvel at the odds/ends I now stumble over in
WinXPpro....... :)

I think, after CW's last share, it is time to push my very old
server closer to 'modern.' It now runs Windows 2000 Server. And,
damn, it runs well still.
No reason not to make the jump direct to 2008, you'll have some
learning to do either way, and this way you can keep it 5 years
