Agreed. I recently replaced my 8800GT with a 5770 on W7. AMD's drivers are in awful shape. I actually rolled back to 9.12's from 10.1's they were such garbage. (And no, none of my issues were addressed in any of the numerous hotfixes AMD has released for 10.1's.) I can't remember ever rolling back a video driver in the past. I'm not sure if it's just because the 5xxx chips are still new, or WDDM 1.1 is still "new", but this is pathetic and inexcusable either way. The installer itself has a number of problems, frequently crashing due to some Visual C++ Runtime version mismatch that's nearly impossible to fix.
AMD's GPUs may be great hardware, but they need to spend some serious time on their drivers and driver installer.
