As said before I stream from my Q6600 PC using PS3Media Server to PS3, netbooks, & our laptops with good results. DVR wise I simply bite the bullet and pay to download basic cable/TV content via usenet rather than DVR myself.

Thought there were laws in place about requiring 1394 be made available to customers that specifically request it? Does not stop the cable co from selectively blanking or downgrading the quality to the 1394 but sure beats the no-win HDMI/HDCP path.

For hardware, I have both a full server with a 780G chipset and Win 7 and a

The one requirement u have that I do not is DVR replacement. That could be
quite tricky depending on what your content sources are. If you are a
satellite TV customer like me you are basically SOL. OTA is the safest bet,
with cable TV it really depends on the company and how amenable your setup
is to CableCard.
