Bryan,
OK. From my last call, I may get "Fiber." Their stuff via their "FIOS:
network to my house. It connects to their ONT. The output of their ONT
is an RJ45 Ethernet connection direct to me....(my router's WAN
connector, ?).
I'm no longer hung up on WHO owns whatever acronym. EPB calls it "their
FIOS."
Yes, it is FIBER-OPTIC from EPB to MY HOUSE. I suspect "Fiber" stops at
their "ONT Box."
I will use FIBER henceforth! Good catch. Good Pernt!
Best,
Duncan

Btw this isn't FIOS it's just fiber from www.epbfi.com... right?
FIOS = Verizon branding in theory.
In theory, the way FIOS works is:
Fiber -> Their Box (has a UPS etc) -> RJ45 to my Router
-> Wires/Rj11 to my then copper phone setup

Bryan,
Thanks. I made a simple call to the marketing side.
Learned that "their" FIOS service clips into my internal phone wiring.
OK. But, my internal phone wiring is broken ATM. I know. FIX IT!
I know! I know! Working on this......
Yes, did wish to continue to use my DLink DGL-4300 router.
No, Need a new "modem." Have no plan to use either of the ADSL modems
from the Phone Company! Should I look at Surfboard from Motorola?
OR,.... do you mean that my Router's WAN port could be just connected to
JUST a RJ11 PHONE Line?
I know. More FIOS learning for me!
BTW, my pending FIOS (15M/15M) is now $57.99/mo. Seems steep. But WTF!
Nothing's cheap any more............. :)

Duncan

Honestly you're fine where you are ;)
You would just need a decent router to share the connection with your
computers/lan. It's possible
you already have a good one. They should provide the phone equipment, in
theory.

My electric service provider
http://www.epbfi.com
has notified me that they can now offer me a FIOS connection for
"internet" and "tv." What they call "FI-Phone" comes later this year.
I have waited 3yrs for this!
No, I do NOT know how much yet. Still digging. I do know that the basic
offering is 15M/15M (~$45-$55/mo). I'd like to think about this.
How do I start to figure out what "my-side" boxes I need to start
shopping? I have never seen a FIOS connection!
I understand CABLE. I have/use ADSL. I would so love to completely fire
my current ISP (ATT) and their "dial-tone" phone line.
So, seeking experience, suggestions, etc. ATM.
