I've used both the Netgear and the WD powerline gear. The work great.
I plug mine into my switch. I also use both the Netgear and WD parts
together on the same powerline network. In my house, I plug into a
switch that is upstairs and put the unit in any socket either upstairs
or down, and it all just works. Easy as pie. You might do some
research to find which brand is fastest...I haven't bothered to update
mine as I also have run wire for gigabit ethernet to places I need it.

Been running my Netgear bridge in my shop with a 4 port switch on my

Bridge is a Netgear WNHDE111. Has been flawless for almost 3 years.
The bridge is starting to act up, had to re boot it a couple of time
in he last week. My options are dig a trench and hard wire the shop or
powerline networking.
I know there are a few on the list who have messed with this. Looking
at the Netgear powerline 500 series, possibly the pass though ones.
Can I assume I can plug this into a existing switch ? are the units
available separately, might want to add my sons system in his room
which is now just WIFY.
Suggestions, recommendations appreciated. I guess as long as the
bridge holds up is not a big deal just trying to be prepared. Do not
really care to dig a trench. :-( They seem cheap enough.
