Can not speak to how you are wired to or who your ISP is, but,
I just bought a pair of Netgear wnr3500L(v2) routers from newegg two weeks ago
for $55.99 each IIRC.
Appears they are called 'open source' and ISP supported, whatever that means, but I've
read the docs and read many comments at the site:
http://www.myopenrouter.com
These folk are very high on this router and state that it runs both DD-WRT and Tomato f/w's very well. Yes, it is basically a 'wireless' router, but I still use it very happily on my home
wired LAN. So far, so good. And, it is pretty quick for an N300 router!

So you suggest using a router as an access point instead of getting a
dedicated access point? Can you suggest a router for that? I would like to
have dual-band capabilities with 300Mbs speeds.

Thanks,
Bobby

Access point would be the easiest way.

I would suggest getting a cheap router that's supported by ddwrt and using
that. Great performance and features can be had.

Thanks for the info. My router does not have a connection for an external
antenna. I talked to a network guy at work and he told me that I need to
use an access point for what I am wanting to do.
