Z370 chipset. Max of 6C/12T. Important: Both Skylake (6xxx) and Kaby Lake
(7xxx) chips also use LGA1151, but they are not compatible with the 1151
(v2) on Z370 boards, and vice-versa

Latest Intel HEDT is Skylake-X on LGA2066 with the X299 chipset. Max of
18C/36T.

On the AMD side, you have Ryzen on AM4 with the X370 chipset (up to 8C/16T)
for mainstream, then Threadripper on TR4 with the X399 chipset (up to
16C/32T) for HEDT.

Yes, AMD decided to make a mess of things by usurping Intel's standard
chipset designations.
