List,
This thread is CLOSED! I am done.
Thane wised me up! Thank you, Thane!
Both units are cleansed of the CF tool.
Both are now backed up. I now suspect that "Clean"
is a relative term.............. :)
Nothing was found.
I truck on using ESET and MSSE.
Thank you for your indulgence.
Apologies to the Digest viewers!

Duncan

Thane,
I accept this now. I am dense with this tool. I do not have lots of
experience with extra tools
since I went with ESET in 2006. This is confusing and scary. I salute
those of you that use
these extra tools more frequently that I do. I get the frustration.
I will go back and follow this newer protocol.
I think I may be seeing MSSE working against my efforts.

Duncan

Thane,
OK. I've tried this protocol; went to BleepingComputer and got a new
version of
ComboFix. The newest version is very odd. It deletes itself and
its' directory
after running. Surprised I was; twice!
Both times, the directory and the run file were gone after I ran the
app.
Gone as in the Search routine can not find it.
Hmmm...it shouldn't delete the original file. It normally creates a
c:\combofix folder, where it does the work, and then deletes that,
leaving the original combofix.exe file you ran. You should be able
to just download the latest version and run combofix /uninstall
without running combofix first and it should say "combofix is
uninstalled."
