When the original Half Life 2 was being developed some hackers got the
code and released it onto the Internet. This pissed off Valve and delayed
the release of the game for many months until they developed Steam to
control the distribution of their software. There are many games from many
developers there now and its a huge improvement over the broken DRM crap
that many games are released with today that require you have the CD in
your drive while playing etc. I was dead set against Steam when it came
out but now I like the fact the social aspects of it and that I can buy a
game online and pay for it with PayPal and download it to my PC. Rather
nifty actually..

If you haven't yet experienced the Orange Box, this is a great time to

Steam is having their annual 2-week holiday sale with tons of great
games.
Always good to pick up some stuff for cheap after the holidays.
