You're right, Intel (and AMD) have both made their naming conventions nearly
impenetrable.  But that could be by design to keep the market fragmented and
allow for the marketing types to work their magic.

Sandy Bridge is essentially a multi-core CPU combined with a GPU and
specialized video rendering/transcoding.  All using very low power
consumption.
