Apparently my SATA opticals are too old to function under Windows on an
AHCI enabled controller. Nor does the BIOS see them as boot drives. My
Asus 890GX mobo has the option to set ports 4 and 5 to "Native IDE" and
then I could install Vista. Thanks for sharing.

I installed win7 all ahci. I only use sata burners, and win7 had no

Son of a gun, you're right and I've been looking in the wrong places.
There's also an Asrock board that's cheapest of the three
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157228. Still
the
Asus board looks to be best and it's cheaper than the Gigabyte.
I'm very interested in your experience installing Windows 7 (I assume it
was 7). Did you use an optical drive? Does the BIOS have one port set
aside for "Native IDE" if you set the SATA ports to AHCI? Or perhaps did
you install Windows as "Native IDE" and then use the registry hack to
enable AHCI after install. Sorry for all the questions but the fact that
optical drives don't work under AHCI (mine won't) or won't boot under
AHCI
to install Windows has me somewhat concerned and I'm looking for the best
solution. What did you do? TIA

I've been checking NewEgg daily to see if they are for sale yet. Let us
know if you find any for sale please. Cute card.

Makes me laugh, admittedly.
Been playing with Zacate this week. It's the real deal; if they get
a
board around $120, it's phenomenal, even at $150, it's fantastic for a
dead silent box.
