Has anyone ever dealt with the Netgear Stora? It's a small box that hangs on your network, comes with a single 1TB drive. There is a slot for a 2nd drive, which can be configured either as extra storage or a mirror. I'm not in the mood to trust it a lot since it states that it's a non-standard format and you can just shove one of their drives into a computer and find the data. It also demands that any drive installed is reformatted, so you cannot add data by adding a drive full of data.

I've had four of these in for data recovery in the last year. The problem is, one drive dies, and it almost NEVER puts the raid back in order (this is the IX4-200D) IN fact, it immediately declares all the drives foreign and starts demanding to reformat them.

What a POS. After a data recovery that took almost a week and a half to get back 5TB, I can tell you: recovering a shitload of data from a broken RAID-5 in a non-standard (XFS) file system is a giant PITA.

That's all. End of the day complaint. Businesses who rely on this thing for a backup are FOOLS.
