[H] Win7 license question

I guy a know has a Sony laptop. It came with Windows 7 Home, 64bit.  The 
HD died and he didn't make any recovery discs.

He's willing to buy a new HD, but what about Windows? Isn't he entilted 
to a Windows 7 Home 64bit license?  I believe there is a blue sticker on 
the bottom of the laptop with the number to activate windows.  So, if he 
can somehow get a copy of Windows and install it, can he be legal?  Or 
should he contact Sony?
