I've used an older Garmin (200 series from 2010) with lifetime traffic and
its routing was really poor with picking slower roads over the highway when
the highway would have been faster even if it was a longer route. Before
that I used a Magellan which I loved, but it didn't come with free map
updates so updating cost as much as a new GPS.

I current GPS is a TomTom XXL, great routing with its IQ routes and my
favorite feature is alerts for speed cameras. Other then that its kind of
annoying to use. Garmin in their 2012 models (the 1490 is a 2011) have
greatly improved routing to be like TomTom's IQ routes but none of them
were on special black friday sales. Really loved the interface on curent
magellans (there is a feature that shows you the distance to upcoming exits
and what is near them) but no equivalent to IQ route or speed cameras.
