My OE automatically compresses folders when they get too large. I have
about 412MB in my OE folder and my machine hums along just fine. Maybe he
has too many large attachments? 1.2GB seems like a lot.

two identities - one with a total of 251MB of mail (in about 15 mailboxes)
and the other 1.2GB of mail (in about 35 mailboxes). I'm assuming this is
