To echo Thane's comments: the industry-wide plague has subsided, but there
are still crap electrolytic cap brands (e.g., I would place Capxon, Teapo,
OST, and especially Fuhjyyu, on my list of DO-NOT-USE). On the flip side,
there are a number of exceptional brands, including Rubycon, Nippon/United
Chemi-Con, Panasonic, and Hitachi. Sanyo, Nichicon, and Samxon are also
generally good quality. The first thing I look for when I'm looking at a
power supply is the brand of 'lytics used.

I say this with some trepidation as it is not my intention to start an AMD
v. Intel war, but I am of the opinion that AMD boards are often of lower
quality than the Intel ones. It has nothing to do with AMD and everything to
do with the fact that AMD boards typically have a lower price point and
lower margins, and are therefore seem to get second-class treatment. This
applies to most board components, including thermal solutions, power
regulation circuitry, integrated components, etc. There are exceptions, but
AMD has yet to lose the "value" connotation and therefore customers tend to
demand lower price points.

Subject: [H] more bad caps

I thought this plaque was over. >:-o

I retired in 08 but as a favor to a old friend who was starting a new
business I build him 5 computers in 09. MB was a Asus m2n-e with a AMD X2
6400 on the main machine which serves as server ( so to speak
) other units were intel core 2's with p5kpl's. ( had really good luck with
that mb)

system been acting up but running, 9 puffed and some leaking caps.
system was very *dusty* inside with lots of fuzz on the cpu fins.
system not running on a UPS AFAIK.

PSU checks OK. For some reason I have a spare am2 mb so I guess I got lucky
this time. MB is a new asus m2a-vm.

not a question just a rant about these darn caps. seems like I have seen
more AMD boards with bad caps then intel but I have seen them all, including
factory built.

hohoho
and I am supposed to be retired :'(
off for the grind, hope I can remember how to.
thanks
fp
