Actually, I meant low power consumption/slower speed AND a five year
warranty. It seems the manufacturers figure that consumers that want low
power consumption/slower speed drives also want them cheap with a 1 year
warranty. It would seem that the slower speed drive would experience a
little less wear and tear so could be sold a little cheaper with a longer
warranty.

Overall, I agree. So what is with Seagate (and now Samsung) and their 1 year
warranty? By the time the drive gets to the final consumer, several months
may have elapsed since the manufacture date. You might only get 0.5 to 0.75
years of coverage. I know, that is the reason to go with the 5 year WD
warranty drives!
