The mtype is just an identification number that is compiled into the kernel and must be set in haret. If you downloaded a kernel for your device, the instructions should have stated what mtype to use. If you wrote your own kernel, you should have seen where the mtype was set. Important - there are no generic kernels! You must have a kernel specific to your device (x500v03?).
