Thanks Vasily.  I followed the instructions on this page:

http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/HpIpaqRx1950Documentation

and it says to make the first partition ext2 and then to put the rootfs on
it.  Is it incorrect?   If so, then I'll redo the whole thing again.  I'm
sure I'll get it to boot since others have done it.  Appreciate the help.
