The whole point of a shaping engine is to convert characters to glyphs
and in the proper order, right?
Well, I was assuming that every glyph could be represented by a unicode
character. So it looked more practical to have a list of unicode chars
than a list of glyph indices because the last ones are font dependant.
And for documentation, I feel you should read the Graphite
documentation. Even though it is not OpenType, it should be quite
instructive as to rendering in general as it throws the entire
responsibility of rendering on the font programmer.
