There's a basic principle of " asuk be-mitzvah patur mi--mitzvah"--someone 
who is busy with one mitzvah is excused from another. This is only for 
positive mitzvot (ie. prayer, learning) not negative ones (ie. one still 
needs to eat only kosher).
This is the reason some poskim give for why women are not obligated to 
time-bound mitzvot generally (since women most often have children, and the 
mitzvah of caring for children properly overids set times for mitzvot--with 
some exceptions, obviously.)
