POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Children / Young Adult Librarian
REPORTS TO: Director of Community Programs
CLASSIFICATION: Full time / Part time
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Jewish Children�s Museum, Brooklyn, New York plans to open in September, 2004. The JCM is seeking a qualified person to begin working immediately to create from the ground up a children and young adult collection containing approximately 3,500 volumes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:
Develop a collection in Jewish children�s literature.
Select and implement an integrated library system.
Work with the Director of Community Programs to develop after school outreach programs (i.e. story hour, book club, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS:
� Broad knowledge of Judaica.
� Knowledge of technology.
� Experience working with children.
� Verbal and written communication skills.
� Great passion for motivating children to read.
� Commitment to excellence in customer service.
� MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program or working towards it.
COMPENSATION:
$1,153.85 - $ 1,346.15 (biweekly). The beginning salary is based upon professional experience.
This position is ideal for someone who is pursuing a full time summer job to develop a brand new children�s library with the option to continue as full time or part time in the fall.
